Rumbo is designed with privacy at its core. This policy explains what data Rumbo accesses, what it does not collect, and how third-party services are used.
What data does Rumbo access?
- Location (when in use): Rumbo accesses your device's location only when you explicitly tap "Use current location" to set your starting point. Location is used momentarily to place the origin pin on the map and is never stored, transmitted, or logged.
- Photo library (write-only): When you save a generated video, Rumbo writes the file to your camera roll. It does not read, scan, or access any existing photos or videos.
What Rumbo does NOT collect
- No user accounts or personal information
- No email addresses, names, or identifiers
- No server-side data storage of any kind
- No analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking
- No advertising identifiers or ad networks
- No background location access
Third-party services
Rumbo uses the following free, open-source services to provide core functionality:
- OSRM (Open Source Routing Machine): Calculates routes between your origin and destination. OSRM receives the coordinates you select on the map. OSRM is a free, open-source service with no user tracking.
- Nominatim (OpenStreetMap): Provides location search (geocoding). When you search for an address, the query text is sent to Nominatim. No personal identifiers are included.
- Carto / OpenStreetMap: Provides the map tile imagery displayed in the app. Map tile requests include the geographic area being viewed. No personal data is transmitted.
These services are operated by their respective organizations. Rumbo does not control their privacy practices, but they are all open-source projects committed to user privacy.
Data storage
Rumbo stores your recent routes and app preferences locally on your device using standard on-device storage. This data never leaves your phone and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
Children's privacy
Rumbo does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. Since no personal data is collected, there are no special provisions needed.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Since Rumbo collects no data, material changes are unlikely.
